Experimental Vocals & Electro Beats

When I Started Sage Suede, My Vision was Rough & Edgy

I was just a kid in college, learning to create music on my own. I made beats starting in middle school, but wasn’t amazing at it. It took a lot of trial and error, which has led me to improve substantially over the years. I had a lot of musical experience from playing instruments as a kid, but I wasn’t an expert on any of the instruments I played. I also started creating poetry at a young age. I thought that I wanted to be rough, yet smooth and that’s why I chose Suede as my last name.

Acoustic & Electronic Tracks

I started writing many of the tracks on DIAMONDBACK Demo, using an acoustic guitar. A few of the songs, such as Bird Girl, Cleopatra, and How Can I, were later made into electro-alternative tracks. Others were created entirely electronically; I started with electronic beats and then I added vocals with an iPhone.

Not all of them were created with the same amount of care and polish. I rushed to finish the demo by an arbitrary deadline and some tracks probably should have been excluded. It’s rare to ever hear a demo that spans 13 tracks or has so much variety. On 2018 Freebies & Bangers, I tried to release as many tracks as I could. However, a lot of people still haven’t heard my music and switching languages so many times on one release is confusing.

I decided to release a new compilation, just to showcase the best tracks from DIAMONDBACK Demo and 2018 Freebies & Bangers. It is called RAWR and all of the tracks were chosen by my fans. They are so smart and I really appreciate their help!

My New Release RAWR

I have already submitted this track for distribution but copyright for the tracks on DIAMONDBACK Demo has slowed down the process. RAWR will be in all music stores soon. I am not taking down the free releases on my website either!

Vocal Experimentation

When I started out, I didn’t have much vocal experience at all. I even started doing musical theatre for some free vocal training. I enjoyed performing in musical theatre and the people I met, but a lot of the music made me gag. I love rock music, so generally I avoid the cheesier, artificial happiness of many musical numbers (no offense). I actually dropped out of a musical production because of it, Sorry Julia.

Me, being cheesy:

Mumble Rap & Rock Vocals

I don’t consider myself to be a rapper, but as a lyrical poet, I did talk over several of my earlier tracks. I was given feedback by some that it was under-whelming, but I created several tracks with the intention of sounding apathetic. The old Sage Suede, was trying to create music that was still rough around the edges; I wanted to be punky and I don’t like to sound boring, so a bit weird too. I have been influenced by shoe-gaze and mumble rappers started becoming a popular thing while I was working on the demo, so a few of the tracks sound like apathetic raps. I later realized that this wasn’t the best sound for me. I love hip hop and rap, so both genres continue to influence me a lot, but they aren’t a great description of my sound. I like to use some of the vocals I learned through musical theatre, but with a rougher style.

Somewhat during DIAMONDBACK and also afterwards, I started with rock vocals,. The roughest were in “At Mo Power.” I yelled a little too much in that song, but it also helped me to push the envelope and add a little more aggression in my vocals. This was a bigger step in the direction of learning rock vocals, but it also taught me when my voice was too aggressive.

On some of the early versions of ElectroPapi EP, I even did a low heavy metal growl, but I’ve decided not to include that in the final version, because it scared a few of the sensitive acoustic artists at an open mic that I performed at. Kind of pathetic for people to be scared of hard rock vocals, I know, but I still want them to listen to my music.

As a result, my current vocal style is essentially a form of alt rock, but nothing too strong like heavy metal. I hope that people will appreciate my voice some day. I have never wanted to sound like anyone else and I’m constantly throwing myself into the cold (so to speak), in order to improve myself as a musician and break new ground at the same time.

Why Are There So Many Languages?

I love learning foreign languages and some of that poetry came about, while I was in classes learning those languages. Because I started college as a sophomore with 32 credit hours, I had room in my schedule to pursue my love of foreign languages outside of classwork. I am going to move away from creating so many foreign language tracks in the future, simply because it isn’t practical. I still live in the USA, so initially, I will need to focus on English and Spanish. I still plan to make songs in other languages in the coming years, definitely in Portuguese too. Please let me know which languages you are interested in.

No One Is Helping Me With Anything

In the modern music industry, you have to form your sound and crowd, before anyone will consider you for a label. You can pay a producer to get your sound to that level, but honestly, I can’t afford it. I went to college to have a modest income, that barely sustains my rent and certainly doesn’t leave room for excessive music costs. A professional music producer will easily cost you $500 or more per song. Countless artists have created their entire careers with quality producers, when they lacked any musical talent to get there on their own.

I am the opposite of a trust fund baby. I’m still working towards my goals, entirely of my own merit. I had a lot of mistakes along the way and chose to be experimental starting out. I am starting to form my own unique sound, as a result of taking so many risks. I look forward to sharing it with everyone.

More Fan Art Here.

What Genre is Sage Suede?

I would classify Myself as Electro-rock or Electro-pop. I have changed my style a lot over the past few years but I am finally starting to find a sound that makes me happy and fits my personal style. You will hear the fruits of my labor in ElectroPapi EP.

ElectroPapi EP is Well on Its Way

I am currently reviewing the lyrics in ElectroPapi EP, to make sure everything is the best that it can possibly be! I have improved monumentally on audio editing and I know that ElectroPapi EP will be mind-blowing, when it’s finally completed.

I can’t wait to share my hard work with everyone! Thanks for following me.

Bird Girl

Another Song About a Previous Relationship

I wrote this about my first relationship in college. It’s about both being in a romantic relationship, as well as a strong, independent women. My ex was mentally strong and it is a quality that I admired about her. She wore bright red lipstick a lot and she was actually really cool. That’s why I say “an unifinished nest” because there is probably some iteration of reality, in which we did stay together. I felt a good connection with her and we had a positive relationship together.

She Liked France a Lot

She stopped showering for a while, just because it was something that she told me was typical of French culture. She said that they didn’t shower and they wore a lot of cologne. We were together for about half a year, but we broke up while we spent a summer apart. She went to France and I went to Brazil for a brief study abroad. We didn’t see each other after the month ended either, as we had to go home before the commencement of other classes. A few months apart is difficult for any relationship. Sometimes I wonder how I would have acted if I was more mature in that situation.

How That Relationship Ended

While I was in Brazil, I went to a bar called Al Capone’s with a bunch of friends. I met an attractive woman in a red corset and we really hit it off. I danced with her and then we made out for a while. We didn’t hook up or anything, but she left her business card in my pocket.

I didn’t feel bad about it and that’s how I knew I needed to end my relationship. I do not condone cheating and I am not about that life. When I didn’t feel bad about violating my relationship (in my opinion), I cut things off. It was out of consideration for my partner’s feelings, because I didn’t want to lead her on. I did miss her and we had a lot of good times together, but it just wasn’t the right relationship for me. Maybe it was just the timing and of course, being in different countries is a huge burden on any couple. I don’t think that I was entirely emotionally ready for a relationship at that point in time. I don’t regret it and I actually place a lot of value in her as a person.

Unfortunately, We Weren’t Able to Stay Friends

We tried to stay friends for a while, but we just weren’t ever able to communicate the same way again. At the end of college, we hung out a little bit with mutuals and we were able to be cool with each other. After college, we were able to catch up a little bit online but that’s where things left off. I’m glad that she was so positive and strong throughout that entire ordeal and I wish I could have been a better person for her. In a way, this song is me trying to immortalize what we used to have. Most relationships that start freshmen year of college are doomed to fail anyway.

What About the Red Corset Girl?

Umm, she put her business card in my pocket when she left. She was a wedding planner in Brazil and I didn’t call her while I was still there. Leaving a relationship was enough burden for me at that point and I wasn’t ready for another one. I used to wish that I had gotten to know her, but I was only in Brazil for one month so there wasn’t much hope. I thought about friending her on Facebook after returning to The U.S., but by then it didn’t seem worth it anymore. It would be cool, if we have a chance encounter some day but it’s highly unlikely.

Musical Composition of Bird Girl

I wrote this song on guitar, before I created the drum beat. This is one of the songs I made with ProTools, when I still had access to it on the Northeastern University library computers. I only use Ableton now, because ProTools is ridiculously expensive. I think that this song came together rather nicely and had a good cohesiveness to it. Lyrically, it has powerful metaphors that illustrate a really interesting scenario. The metaphors don’t exactly mirror the way our relationship was, but they have a raunchy feeling to them that captures the sensual energy of our relationship.

Bird Girl lyrics by Sage Suede

Bird Girl
you liked to be stern
always had a sweater on
you let things unfurl

Bird Girl
you rarely had makeup on
if you did was red lipstick
with dark eyes said I’m #1

Bird Girl
you didn’t need to shower
if you did, I’d probably join you
and we’d stay there for an hour like a
full moon
rise a sensual tide
water between her thighs
and the shower curtain fell again

it might’ve been
it could’ve been
it should’ve been
it would’ve been

all the happiest dreams

it had to be
it couldn’t be
it was an incomplete masterpiece

like an unfinished nest
on a motel out west
not free to park
but with a fully stocked mini bar

Bird Girl
you liked to be stern
always had a sweater on
you let things unfurl

Bird Girl
you rarely had makeup on
if you did was red lipstick
with dark eyes said I’m #1

Bird Girl
you didn’t need to shower
if you did, I’d probably join you
and we’d stay there for an hour like a
full moon
rise a sensual tide
water between her thighs
and the shower curtain fell again

it might’ve been
it could’ve been
it should’ve been
it would’ve been

all close contact
I’ll like your ear
you’ll text back

it had to be
it couldn’t be
it was an incomplete masterpiece

it might’ve been
it could’ve been
it should’ve been
it would’ve been

spread your wings and fly high
with apathy that never dies

it had to be
it couldn’t be
it was an incomplete masterpiece

young love electrified

Bird Girl
you liked to be stern
always had a sweater on
you let things unfurl

Bird Girl
you rarely had makeup on
if you did was red lipstick
with dark eyes said I’m #1

Bird Girl
you didn’t need to shower
if you did, I’d probably join you
and we’d stay there for an hour like a
full moon
rise a sensual tide
water between her thighs
and the shower curtain fell again

And now I’m left with nothing
but all this would be loving
just took a red corset
another’s lips and now I’m
lost again

Yes, I lick ears and that is usually a turn on for musicians lol. I didn’t train my cat to do that though.

How Can I

How Can I call you my lover Sage Suede

How Can I is A Song About Millennial Dating

Nowadays, most people meet through dating apps and it is great to meet someone worthwhile, but oftentimes they are already talking to other people before they even meet you. So it’s optimistic to even expect dating to go anywhere when you meet someone from an app.

Why is it Optimistic?

Unfortunately, dating apps make everyone a commodity. No matter how attractive you are, it just takes a few more swipes to meet someone else.

Tip: Try To Ask Your Date About Their Dating Life

If you talk with someone and they are an honest person, they should tell you where you stand. They should also give you an idea of whether or not they are seeing multiple people, or have already met someone before you. It can feel deceptive when someone is dating others, but keep in mind that you may not be at the exclusive phase yet. They could also be polyamorous and if that’s the case, then you need to be okay with it for your relationship to work. I have had people break up with me because I’m not polyamorous and that doesn’t offend me. They just wanted something that I couldn’t give them. This song isn’t really that relevant to polyamory, unless you are speaking in terms of someone that isn’t ready to date you at all.

Modern Dating Sometimes Has a Longer Dating Phase

I have met couples that were married after one or two weeks of dating. They are a bit older than me, so I presume that it is a generational difference, however that can also be the case when you meet someone that is just right for you. However, with all of these apps and fewer societal obligations to get married, many people of younger generations are waiting longer to get married. As a result, the dating phase can last much longer than expected.

You won’t get to be exclusive with people as quickly as in the past. It’s also not nearly as easy, when they can search for others on the internet and that is the premise of this song.

How can you even call someone a lover, if they are unwilling to settle down with you?

That question is much longer than How Can I, which also evokes a lack of the ability to put this meaning into words.

It’s Hard to Find Consistency in Your Teens and Early Twenties

However, as many people get older, there is more desire to settle down. It’s nothing to get worked up about, because it won’t get you anywhere. Most people don’t know what they want at a young age and they can’t even identify what they need in a partner. Just be clear with your partner when you would like to be exclusive and don’t try to change who they are.

dating advice sage suede

Sometimes, you can get someone to be exclusive with you rather quickly, but usually it takes at least a few dates and several weeks. Since I’m talking about this concept, I would also like to mention that you don’t want to tell someone you love them too early on, because it makes you seem desperate. Sometimes this can be have poor consequences, early in a relationship.

You really can’t put a time frame on when it’s okay to say “I love you,” but if I ventured a wild guess I would say 3 months. You really need to read your partner’s body language though and if you feel that close to them, they may be in a similar place.

Musical Composition of How Can I

This song is written with an alternative rock feeling to it. It is most similar in style to Cleopatra on DIAMONDBACK Demo. It also features a drum machine and electric guitar. I would like to get a higher quality guitar pedal in the future, so the distortion is a little more clear. This was another step in the right direction for me, as the songwriting process taught me more about rock vocals and what I want to sound like.

How Can I lyrics by Sage Suede

I was looking at the moon
la lune
and she says be there soon
shut in like a coccoon
butterfly
too dark to go and fly
rubberneck dirt road
killing my flow
not sure
how to cope
when it’s just picking up a fight
a girl just like any other

How can I call you my lover
when we still want another
hand and hand but wondering
why do we even bother
perfect is a dirty word
don’t think I have ever heard
a single lie just quite as dry
but loving you feels just right

I was walking down the street
you’d speak
beautiful words muttered
under your breath
confess to me
through my window shutters
seen so many details of so many females
like to hear her tale
read her like an email
must be like a single light
a spark that struck me just right

How can I call you my lover
when we still want another
hand and hand but wondering
why do we even bother
perfect is a dirty word
don’t think I have ever heard
a single lie just quite as dry
but loving you feels just right

farewell
but you cast your spell
I wanted to see it through
you rang the bell
and my pride fell
I’ll come crawling
back to you
warm fuzzy full it’s like
orange fills my soul
this light
could keep me there
could make me stare
into your eyes
and kiss you tonight

How can I call you my lover
when we still want another
hand and hand but wondering
why do we even bother
perfect is a dirty word
don’t think I have ever heard
a single lie just quite as dry
but loving you feels just right

BIG Cats Out There Are Loving This

Sage Suede – BIG Cats Out There Are Loving This

I used to have a page on this site for submissions and feedback, but I took it down because it wasn’t too useful. I’ll probably create something else like it for collaborations and to submit fan art, since the email submission is a little more difficult. While I was asking people for song concepts, one of my friends requested “more smoked salmon,” so I incorporated it in the lyrics of this song. I didn’t want to turn down that challenge and I thought that it would be fun.

What is Smoked Salmon in This Song?

Smoked salmon is used as a metaphor for something showy and wealth-related. When you think about this song, you can essentially picture fat cats in suits eating salmon. I don’t even really like the taste of salmon that much, although I admire their upstream resilience.

Additional Meaning Behind This Song

I believe that it helps to put energy out into the world in a way you would like things to be. Whether or not you believe that is effective, it still helps to align your mentality with your personal goals. The lyrics in this song are written so that if you repeat them, they will bring more money into your life.

WARNING: Cats can become addicted to Salmon

When I wrote this song, I’d never looked into the details of how cats can eat salmon and just assumed that since cats eat fish sometimes, that it was totally cool. Turns out that they aren’t supposed to eat it often, because salmon lacks vital nutrients and it’s better not to feed them much raw fish, because it can be poisonous. It is better to cook the salmon first and the reason it shouldn’t be smoked is related to the curing process, as they can’t take much salt.

So I guess smoked salmon would be fine if you don’t use much salt but the conventional method of smoking salmon is not cool for cats. I wasn’t a cat owner when I made this and I really made it flippantly, without much purpose. It’s pretty silly and fun, so there isn’t any reason to take it that seriously – but I had to include this disclosure for any cat owners. Also, they can become addicted to salmon and refuse to eat anything other than salmon, so definitely don’t give them a lot. I have heard cats will do this with a bunch of stuff though. When I wrote these lyrics, I had no idea that cats have such delicate salmon-related sensibilities. lol

Sage Suede – Big Cats Out There Are Loving This Lyrics

And you never gave me credit
Because you never read it
I thrifted half my wardrobe
Other gifts from globe trekkers

meditating on the daily
And making my payments
Working hard, making statements
Looking for cheaper rent

And you never gave me credit
Because you never read it
I thrifted half my wardrobe
Sphinxes have me in the mix

I’m floating freely,
rhyming slant
Being my hottest
Like salmon swimming upstream
Being my baddest

I’m upping my own level
each and every day
I like people that vibe with me…

Been years since smoked salmon
Big cats out there are loving this
Turn your 3rd eye on me,
And make me rich

Sexy Scorpião

Sexy Scorpião by Sage Suede

This song is written for scorpios, because the sign does not have the best reputation (in some parts of the world), so I made this song to improve that. I’ve also had several relationships with scorpios and it’s generally agreed to be the sexiest zodiac sign by many. My tattoo has no relation to this song or the people I have dated and I got it before ever dating a scorpio. I got this tattoo, because as a kid I was stung by a scorpion on my foot. It is symbolic and represents both home and having overcome something that used to seem insurmountable to me. Scorpions are also seen as symbols of protection in many cultures and that is another reason I got this tattoo.

Sloppy translation of the above:
Ta canção é pra todo scorpião do mundo. Entendo que a reputação do o signo astrologico de scorpio nê muito bem, então criei deste pra a melhorar disso. Tb tenia mulitplas relacionamentos com scorpiões e na minha opinião ta um signo muito mais sexy do zodiaco.

Song Quality & Composition

I wrote this song quickly and I didn’t spend a lot of time on it. I recorded it on my iPhone one day while sitting in my bedroom. It isn’t the best song I have ever made and the quality of the guitar embarrasses me, but it expresses a lot of emotion that I felt personally at the time. I would consider re-making it, but maybe with all of the lyrics in Portuguese. It was just a fun side-project for me and it isn’t on any kind of album, or even my demo.

Why Do You Speak Portuguese?

I speak Portuguese, because I started college as an international business major. I chose Portuguese as my focus and eventually spent 1 month in Brazil for a language immersion. I still have a lot of friends there and a lot of them coincidentally work in concert promotion. Anyways, in a nutshell I took about 4 Portuguese classes. When I went to Brazil, I had only taken 2 and I took a 3rd while I was there. I was surprised to find that I was mostly fluent when I got there. I guess part of why my brain processed the language so well is because it is very close to Spanish (often only a letter or two off) and my mom was one of the volunteer Spanish teachers at my elementary school. My grandfather was stationed on a military base in Panama, so my mom learned Spanish while she was a kid. Anyways, I also speak a few other languages and I am a polyglot. It’s something that I want to incorporate in my music, because I have always been passionate about learning other languages, often through self-study.

Fort Point Open Mic Night

fort point open mic night sage suede

Fort Point Open Mic Night

I finished editing an acoustic performance from Fort Point Open Mic Night at Internal Matter. The editing isn’t particularly good, because well, there isn’t much you can do about low quality video. I was having issues with the MTS file format but I found a workaround.

Performance at Internal Matter

I enjoyed playing at Internal Matter and would love to play there again. Unfortunately, this bar isn’t around anymore. I had to leave after performing and eating, because I had a final exam the next day and I needed to study. I wish I’d had more time to talk with the cool artists and locals in attendance. People seemed genuinely interested in meeting me and I should have stuck around. Nonetheless, I enjoyed playing at Internal Matter and am hoping to play more open mics in Boston when I finish DIAMONDBACK Demo.

I Used To Work in Fort Point

I was particularly happy about being a part of Fort Point Open Mic Night, because I used to work for a small business in the area and was personally involved in helping to market and grow the community. It’s a little too expensive for me to move there, but I really liked the environment. I have met more than a few of the business owners in the area and they were all very kind. I even went to business meetings at the Boston Tea Party Museum and Menton, which were both really cool. I miss that internship a lot, actually. I learned a lot about building websites and many of the skills that aided me in creating this blog.

Lindsay was especially helpful as hostess and an organizer for the event. You can find more about her work on her website baernaeked.com (I am not sure if this site exists anymore, because I’m getting a DNS error). I was also excited to see the video was re-posted by The Fort Pointer. Kind of a random thing if you don’t know who that is, but they are probably the most famous person in Fort Point.

Changes to the Songs in this Performance

Mob Mentality

I made improvements to the first song, which I was going to call Mob Mentality so it will sound different in newer versions. This is just because of some of the unintended connotations of a few metaphors and other improvements, based on further revision. I don’t think I have another recording of that song yet.

Just Got Tipsy

I partially wrote Just Got Tipsy, because I knew I would be singing while people were drinking, although it also vaguely describes my life in Boston and materialism. I only changed the final phrase in this song. Just Got Tipsy is also a track on 2018 Freebies & Bangers.

Sexy in that Sweater

I recorded Sexy in that Sweater as it is performed here. Didn’t actually make many changes to this, except for the vocal effects I used on some versions of the song.

Lazy Sunday with You (Shaky Lips)

The last song I performed was Lazy Sunday with You, although the recording was cut short so you won’t hear it in this video. A little weird without the finality of this set, but you can find that song elsewhere on the site now. Disappointing, because that was also the most well-received song in the set and it got a lot of applause.

Quality Doesn’t Phase Me

I recorded this performance and wish the audio could have been a little better, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The quality doesn’t stop it from being enjoyable and I hope that my real fans will still take some time to give it a listen. I know it’s hard to hear me, since this was recorded with a camcorder, and an iphone when the camcorder died on the last track. In the future, I want to pick up audio near the stage. This was my first live performance of my original material, so it was important to me.

As a random tidbit, I got a skateboard shortly after this show from a cool brand called One Gig and carried that around town. They were really nice and I like their design, so I definitely recommend them. At the time, I had still only played one gig and I think it’s cool that it says that on my board.

Update: I also modeled for One Gig soon after. Find it on my modeling portfolio.

Gays in Space with Bass

sage suede gays in space jamieson edson sorry I have memory problems

If it isn’t acceptable in the workplace, it shouldn’t be acceptable in our government.

I wrote this post originally because I was inspired by a congressional speech. Regardless of intention, it is delimiting to tell gay people they can’t do something, even if it is something that applies to so few, as colonizing space. This kind of speech creates divisiveness in American society. This divisiveness is a political tool meant to keep us from aligning on collective societal needs, in favor of elitism.

You are most likely a victim of ignorant speech in your life, because everyone has their own views and opinions. We are limited to our experience and inexperience in any given area (such as lifestyle and sexuality) can lead to negative and often, misguided opinions. If you don’t have experience with something, you can express your feelings and opinions, but you have no place as a voice of authority that wastes taxpayer dollars and gains global recognition. Gay people don’t deserve to be delimited with their own taxes and as they have proven themselves to be highly successful in virtually every occupational field, there is no reason to exclude them from anything, such as space colonies.

Homosexuality is Normal. It is Not “Being Normalized.”

Another similar issue, not directly addressed in the speech is labeling homosexuality as unnatural. To say that homosexuality and non-binary gender is a form of mental illness is ignorant of all the love experienced in these relationships and the rights of trans people to do what they want and feel is right with their bodies.

The sheer notion that so-called alternative forms of sexuality are immoral is a bias created and perpetuated by heterosexuals. It is completely heterocentric and very often ignorant to even postulate an awareness, much less an understanding of a sexuality that is not your own. Oftentimes, these aren’t even personal views, they are views established by ideologies at a young age, when people have less capacity to doubt what they are being taught. I don’t have any issue with the idea of religion and I see its value in my life, as well as the lives of those around me, but hatred eats away at the soul and there isn’t a benefit to hating others for the way they love. Love isn’t hurting anyone.

In the political sphere, these feelings only cause harm to queer Americans and when they are expressed by the USA, there are implications for people within the LGBT+ community globally. Ignorant and judgmental people go on to repeat these ideas and it spirals throughout society, causing universal harm. There is no benefit to speaking this way and that is one of the main reasons I wrote this post, so that gay people know that they can be high achievers, regardless of hate speech. Many in the LGBTQIAPK community already are and there is no reason to believe the propaganda of elitists that want everyone but them to fail anyway. Divisiveness primarily exists within politics to marginalize everyone that isn’t a multimillionaire, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation.

Homosexuality Has Never Been a Mental Illness

In the middle ages, homosexuality was considered a form of mental illness and by association a form of demonic possession. In the words of Sigmund Freud, considered by many to be the father of modern psychology…

Homosexuality is assuredly no advantage, but it is nothing to be ashamed of, no vice, no degradation, it cannot be classified as an illness

It’s horrifying to treat non-heterosexual forms of sexuality as a mental illness, because it leads to the drugging, segregation of and extermination of voices in the LGBTQIAPK community. These people are just like anyone else and can come from any part of society and they only differ on the basis of their sexuality. They can have very positive impacts in their community and are pervasive in popular culture. It is tragic that anyone be delimited and destroyed because of who they are, when they have so much to offer the world.

No one really has the right to push their personal beliefs on someone else in the bedroom and it’s impossible to even try in the first place. Although I believe the speaker had good intentions, this kind of power play should have no place in modern American society. It isn’t uncommon for people to discriminate against sexualities that are not their own, but that doesn’t make it right. If anything, it’s sad and pathetic – it makes the person that passes such judgments look awful. It should never be an acceptable form of behavior in politics, because it serves no positive purpose in the world. I shouldn’t need to create alternative messaging, because anti-gay hate speech has no place in politics, after both a liberal and conservative presidency have upheld the rights of homosexuals in the workplace (at the time of the congressional speech, it was only liberal resolutions).

Anti-Gay Hate Speech in Public and Politics

I know that there are others that share his feelings and even in more liberal parts of the United States, such as Boston, anti-gay views are expressed openly. I have seen bigoted waiters speak with customers condescendingly about their disdain for gay marriage and people on the train that cannot accept that others around them are gay. Even if you only have appreciation for a heterosexual lifestyle, you are still hurting yourself by holding onto all of that anger. It will damage your friendships and will bring more toxic people into your life. There is no benefit to you either, when you say bad things about other people purely based on hetero-centric, self-centered & shallow notions that have no basis in reality.

In the modern world we live in, there is an incredible amount of diversity and not only is it rude to discriminate against those of other sexualities, you are creating negative interpretations of heterosexuals by not being accepting of others. Whether or not it’s acknowledged, you are a representative of your personal culture and you don’t want people to hate you based on who you are, so why would you try to impose that treatment on others? Do you think that you will be treated better or worse, as a result of spreading hatred? It’s not a good thing and it doesn’t make your life better. It certainly doesn’t make the world a better place.

You Can’t Stop Anybody From Being in Love

You will never be able to control what other people do in the privacy of their bedrooms and gay couples are going to be together regardless of the petty insecurities of others. Most “homophobes” – an awful term that phonetically gives anti-gay hate speech the excuse of being a phobia- are people with unresolved gay attraction themselves and it does not make you look more masculine to be a douche. No one likes a downer and not only is it counterproductive to your own personal development to negatively fixate on the behavior of others, you are creating more negativity for yourself by being critical of those that don’t value your opinion. No one thinks you are more man, when you sound insecure and spread hate about something you don’t understand.

I am glad that we have free speech in our society but it is time that we acknowledge the negative implications of hate rhetoric in our political system. People should know better than to assert their personal sexuality on others. No one has a position of sexual authority and if you believe that some kind of supreme being created the universe, then they clearly wouldn’t have created homosexuality by mistake.

Homosexuality in Nature – An Extremely Well-Documented Reality

Humans are not the only animals that have homosexual practices, so it’s about time people acknowledge it isn’t unnatural, or obscure behavior. The video below cites that as many as 1,500 species of animals engage in homosexual relations. Ironically, the formerly anti-gay Republican party has the elephant as their symbol, when Asian and African species are known for homosexuality. I’m glad that they are coming around, when their mascot has been gay for centuries in the wild!

Sodom and Gomorrah is About Rape, NOT Homosexual Love

When it comes to the Bible in politics, we’re bound to have different interpretations, but there’s nothing Christian about condemning people for who they are. In general, there’s nothing Christian about condemning anybody, thus the central paradigm of turning the other cheek. “Today, the standard of psychotherapy in the U.S. and Europe is gay affirmative psychotherapy, which encourages gay people to accept their sexual orientation.” In addition, homosexuality hasn’t been considered a mental illness since 1973, a decade known for inequality and later the breakdown of oppression through demonstrations (many influenced by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr).

Just because the Bible depicts a man and a woman in the garden of Eden, doesn’t make that is the only consensual, or beneficial form of relationship in American society. In the tale of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19), the travelers are rapists demanding sex from unwilling men that live in the host’s dwelling. We know this because the host is not a pimp and he says: “don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.” It’s not consensual or representative of any form of non-heterosexual love when someone runs away from an attacker! I am baffled at how this has been used as a justification for unintelligible, anti-gay propaganda for centuries when it is so mind-numbingly obvious that that men in this story are running away from rapists.

Rape is rape, regardless of the genders involved and it’s time to stop grossly mis-associating and misinterpreting this passage with homosexual love. Gay relationships would not exist, if all queer folk did was rape each other. Rape is not a form of sexuality.

Misplaced hate against the LGBTQIAPK community that is justified as any form of sexual experience that doesn’t breed a child is not only illogical, but hurtful to those that will then be bullied and mistreated by others in their communities. It cannot be justified by Sodom and Gomorrah by any logical stretch of the imagination. You may disagree, but then you’d also have to answer as to why homosexuality exists so prominently in nature. Ultimately, all of this hate is unjustified and a huge waste of time for people, when they could instead be focusing on their own personal development and releasing anger that only destroys the body internally. Hatred doesn’t have any benefit to anyone.

What I used to think:

It’s stupid and pointless to talk about gay exclusion from space colonies, because we aren’t even colonizing space yet. The closest thing the general public is aware of is inhabitants of the international space station and space exploration.

However, we live in the future:

When I first looked into this congressional speech, I did not know anything about space programs or exopolitics. Since then I have read a lot more and follow several blogs online that claim to speak about secret space programs (SSPs). I take this all with a grain of salt, but still.

I will not pretend to be versed in these matters, but I have learned much more about our origins. I am not the only one, but am simultaneously nowhere near a fringe of society. I am just independent in my beliefs and capable of vetting them through independent research. I mention this now, as I did not think we were colonizing space, but even South Park talks about going to Mars now, so it’s clearly happening. I actually think I read an article about sending people to Venus recently too.

I still believe that gay people are capable of anything and they are high achievers in societies all over the world. For this reason, I don’t see any excuse to keep them from colonizing space. Sexuality may be labeled as one way, but it has always been a spectrum.  There is no reason to demonize homosexuals, because the story of Soddom and Gomorah is about rapists. We should be doing something about sexual slavery, but instead homosexuality is demonized, in order to take the discussion away from real societal problems. If we spent less time hating each other, we would get more done for ourselves and groups that use hate speech as a tactic to prevent progress, wouldn’t be able to do so anymore.

I just hope the gov will realize that people are waking up and if we don’t stay ahead, we will ultimately fall behind. That includes promoting equality so we can spend more time on issues that actually matter.

Sage Suede – Gays in Space

Gays in space
Gays in space
They’ll save the human race
Not second tier
Not breeding fear
Profiting off of hate x2

Love is love
It’s not a front
Still not a stunt
For you to judge
You’re a pervert if you rant
to people how to lay in bed

What is wrong with government
Not fixing what is broken
We need a revolution now
Rich rabble-rousing congress

Gays in space
Gays in space
They’ll save the human race
Not second tier
Not breeding fear
Profiting off of hate x2

The vote is gone
We’re counting wrong
The system’s flawed and not us
We have the tech, no horsemen left
Why electoral college
The money talks
No word for us
The mic was dropped on progress
Why talk about our problems now
When caviar is thoughtless

It’s in the animal kingdom
In bed, there’s still freedom
See it with the kiwis, penguins
I’ve even met gay dogs

Devoted to dumb. It’s not about love; it’s not about gay people at all.
It’s about divided we fall and dividing us when there’s no divide at all.

Only things’s unnatural is being so judgmental
Elephants are gay too, awkward it’s your symbol

How about we actually discuss something real. Not just hate appeals: wasting our time & our taxes.
justifying hate with a rape tale, be real.

Gays in space
Gays in space
They’ll save the human race
Not second tier
Not breeding fear
Profiting off of hate x2

Tell me where the rainbow lies
The gold is where we bridge the lines
Together we have much more
We need democracy, not war

Let’s break down the mindless
The web shows we are righteous

I pity the dividers
Can’t live beyond the blinders

Let freedom ring equal
and count the votes of the people

I hope this post has helped to open your perspective in some way. I was even surprised by some of my research!
Do whatever feels right for you, but it’s generally better to accept that people will do what they want with their bodies. We can’t affect what happens behind closed doors anyway, so there’s no reason to be butthurt about it.

Sexy in That Sweater

Sage Suede - Sexy in That Sweater

I’m Just Getting Started:

I recorded Sexy in That Sweater a few months ago and posted the video on YouTube. I received a few requests for airplay by radio stations through YouTube, but idk how genuine those were. One of them was in Italy, I think… Anyways, It’s been a difficult process establishing this site and music, but I still have a lot to learn about music promotion before anyone will really hear what I have made.

Today, I revisited the song Sexy in that Sweater and made a lot of improvements. The version from DIAMONDBACK Demo is below, followed by the lyrics and the first video version. If you think it’s cool, let me know and I’ll head further in this direction for the future.

The Meaning Behind Sexy in that Sweater:

This song is about one of my best friends in high school. She is very intelligent and we had a lot of deep conversations together. When I talk about the sweater, it’s because she loves sweaters and it’s also a metaphor because the mental side of her was so beautiful, that we didn’t need that physical side. I know it may sound a little odd and some douchey guy will probably say something half-minded about my interest in women, but that isn’t why I wrote this. She is beautiful and there may have been some of that physicality, but I wrote this out of genuine appreciation for someone special to me. She loves sweaters, so that was metaphorically the best way for me to show that appreciation for her in words. I want to think that wherever she is today, she is wearing a sweater and enjoying being in that sweater. She got me into sweaters too tbh, we thrifted for them at Goodwill all the time.

When I talk about being empty and hurt in the lyrics, that is more about me and the place I was at when I wrote the song. I don’t even feel like that was the place I was at, when I knew her better. She is such a cool person and I never did anything to make her that way. We weren’t able to stay friends due to unusual circumstances, but if she ever finds this some day, I want her to know that I will always cherish the time we spent together. I may talk about my hurt in this song, but that is because I miss what we used to share. I’m sure she is even cooler now, than she was when I knew her. Who knows? Maybe some day we will be cool again.

Sage Suede – Sexy in that Sweater:

You look sexy in that sweater
I can’t bear to think how better
you made me feel such pleasure
now never take it off
please don’t take it off

we were made to be together
but we both got tanned to leather
I’m still pushing out the tannins
I’m freshly squeezed for you
but we can’t be cool.
—-
close the blinds, the dreamy lights
convoluted things tonight
say a prayer, I want you here
but I’m not ready for a fight

shut me up, I never knew
how to be whole for you
we were both empty vessels
.. and we’re still empty
—-
You look sexy in that sweater
I can’t bear to think how better
you made me feel such pleasure
now never take it off
please don’t take it off

we were made to be together
but we both got tanned to leather
I’m still pushing out the tannins
I’m freshly squeezed for you
but we can’t be cool.
—-
dead living, I’m so stuck
a haunted groom, made to be cellar dweller
shut out by all the fools
we could’ve made failure out of their cruel rules
but now we’re living on the tightrope
and I’m trip tripped up over you
somehow I still shudder
It’s not my brain or the shame
It’s my memories of you
—-
You look sexy in that sweater
I can’t bear to think how better
you made me feel such pleasure
now never take it off
please don’t take it off

we were made to be together
but we both got tanned to leather
I’m still pushing out the tannins
I’m freshly squeezed for you
but we can’t be cool.
